How VIT attendance works

VIT requires 75% attendance in every subject independently. One subject below the cutoff means no FAT hall ticket for that course, regardless of how your others look. There’s no averaging across subjects.

Under FFCS, you pick your slots, but the class counts are fixed. A 4-credit theory course typically runs 60 hours across the semester. A 1-credit lab has its own count. Track them separately.

The W grade

Drop below 75% in a subject and you get a “W” (Withdrawal) grade. No exam. No marks. You re-register next semester and pay again.

VIT enforces this across all schools: SCOPE, SENSE, SMEC, VITBS. The rule doesn’t flex based on your CGPA unless you’re above 9.0, in which case some schools allow a condonation window. Confirm this with your advisor before assuming it applies to you.

Labs and theory are separate

Your theory slot and lab slot have different attendance records. You can be at 88% in theory and still be detained for missing too many labs. Add them as separate rows in the calculator if you want accurate numbers for both.

Medical condonation

VIT does allow medical condonation, but it’s capped and requires proper documentation submitted within a tight deadline. The window is short. Don’t plan your semester around it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum attendance at VIT?
VIT requires 75% in every subject on its own. Fall below in even one and you lose FAT eligibility for that course. There’s no average across subjects.
What happens if I go below 75% at VIT?
You get a “W” grade. That means no exam, no result, and you re-register the course next semester with full fees. VIT is consistent about this across all schools.
Are lab and theory attendance tracked separately?
Yes. Theory and lab attendance are independent records at VIT. 90% in theory won’t save you if your lab is at 65%. Add them as separate subjects in the calculator.
How many classes can I miss in a 60-class subject?
You can safely miss 15 classes. To stay above 75% in a 60-class course, you need at least 45 attended. The calculator works this out per subject automatically.
Can I get medical condonation at VIT?
Yes, but it’s limited and requires documentation submitted within a specific deadline. Check your school’s academic calendar for the exact window. Don’t rely on it as a plan.
Does FFCS affect how attendance is counted?
FFCS lets you choose your slot combination, but the attendance rule is the same regardless. Each course has a fixed class count and the 75% threshold applies to all of them.
