KLU GPA Calculator
Calculate your Semester SGPA, Cumulative CGPA, and equivalent percentage.
Decoding KLU’s Semester and Cumulative Grading System
Koneru Lakshmaiah University (KLU) evaluates your academic performance using a multi-layered grading system. Whether you’re tracking your performance for a single semester or calculating your cumulative scores for placements, you need to understand how SGPA and CGPA work.
Our KLU GPA calculator simplifies this process. It lets you estimate your scores, convert CGPA to equivalent percentage, and check your degree classification instantly.
Understanding KLU’s Official Letter Grade Point System
KLU doesn’t use raw marks on your final sheets. Instead, it assigns letter grades based on the percentage of marks you secure in each course. Each letter grade maps directly to specific grade points.
Here’s the official grading scale used by KLU:
- O (Outstanding): 10 grade points. Secure this by scoring 85% or above.
- A+ (Excellent): 9 grade points. Secured between 80% and 85%.
- A (Very Good): 8 grade points. Secured between 65% and 80%.
- B+ (Good): 7 grade points. Secured between 60% and 65%.
- B (Above Average): 6 grade points. Secured between 50% and 60%.
- C (Average): 5 grade points. Secured between 45% and 50%.
- D (Pass): 4 grade points. Secured between 40% and 45%.
- F (Fail): 0 grade points. Secured below 40%.
- N/A (Detained/Failed): 0 grade points. Assigned for low attendance or internal failures.
audited courses use S (Satisfactory) or NS (Not Satisfactory) grades. These don’t affect your CGPA or SGPA calculations, so you can exclude them from the calculator.
How to Calculate KLU SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average)
Your SGPA represents your average grade points for a single semester. It’s a credit-weighted average, meaning courses with higher credits impact your score much more than low-credit courses.
The formula is:
SGPA = Sum of (Course Credits × Grade Points) ÷ Sum of Course Credits
For example, let’s say you take four courses in a semester: Mathematics (4 credits, Grade A+ [9 pts] = 36 pts), Physics (3 credits, Grade B+ [7 pts] = 21 pts), Programming (3 credits, Grade A [8 pts] = 24 pts), and English (2 credits, Grade B [6 pts] = 12 pts). Total credit points = 93. Total credits = 12. Your SGPA = 93 ÷ 12 = 7.75.
Our calculator automates this calculation. Simply select your grades, type your course credits, and watch your SGPA update in real time.
How to Calculate KLU CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average)
Your CGPA indicates your cumulative academic standing across all semesters. Like the SGPA, the cumulative score is weighted by the total credits registered in each semester.
The formula is:
CGPA = Sum of (Semester SGPA × Semester Credits) ÷ Sum of Semester Credits
Don’t make the mistake of simply averaging your semester SGPAs. If Semester 1 had 18 credits with an 8.0 SGPA, and Semester 2 had 22 credits with a 7.0 SGPA, your CGPA won’t be 7.5. It’ll be pulled lower by the heavier credit weight of Semester 2.
Our CGPA tool handles this weighting automatically. Enter your semester SGPAs and total semester credits to get an exact cumulative score.
Converting KLU CGPA to Equivalent Percentage
Many job placement portals and government exam applications require your marks as a percentage instead of a CGPA. KLU uses a standard conversion formula for this:
Equivalent Percentage = (CGPA – 0.75) × 10
For example, if your CGPA is 8.0, the calculation is: Percentage = (8.0 – 0.75) × 10 = 7.25 × 10 = 72.5%. You can switch to our Percentage panel to convert any CGPA score instantly. It performs the math in one click, saving you from manual calculation errors.
KLU Degree Classifications Based on CGPA
When you graduate, KLU classifies your degree based on your final CGPA:
- First Class with Distinction: CGPA of 7.50 or above, provided you clear all courses in your first attempt.
- First Class: CGPA between 6.75 and 7.49.
- Second Class: CGPA between 5.50 and 6.74.
- Pass Class: CGPA between 4.50 and 5.49.
- Fail: CGPA below 4.50. You won’t qualify for graduation.
Knowing these boundaries helps you set target goals. If you’re sitting at a 7.42 CGPA, our tool can help you calculate the exact SGPA you need in your final semesters to cross the 7.50 threshold for Distinction.
Practical Tips for Boosting Your KLU GPA
If you want to pull your GPA up, focus your energy where it matters most:
- Max Out High-Credit Subjects: A 4-credit course affects your SGPA twice as much as a 2-credit course. Focus your study hours on core engineering or science courses.
- Avoid F and N/A Grades: Failing or getting detained counts as 0 grade points. This severely drags down your average and forces you to clear backlogs, which disqualifies you from graduating with Distinction.
- Clear Doubts in Tutorials: KLU tutorials often feature problem sets that mirror exam questions. Don’t skip these sessions.
- Track Progress Regularly: Use our calculator after each assessment to forecast your final semester scores.
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is your grade average for a single semester. CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is your cumulative average across all completed semesters. Our calculator calculates both.
KLU converts CGPA to percentage using the formula: Percentage = (CGPA – 0.75) * 10. For example, a 7.75 CGPA converts to 70.0%.
You need a final CGPA of 7.50 or above. You must also clear all your courses in the first attempt without any backlogs.
No. Audited courses receive Satisfactory (S) or Not Satisfactory (NS) grades. They carry zero credits for GPA calculation, so you can ignore them in our tool.
You receive 0 grade points for that course. This drags your SGPA down heavily. You’ll need to write backlog exams to clear the subject.
